Experiencing Aloe Vera Plants

Aloe Vera plants are easy to grow in an indoor garden. They can also be planted outdoors or in containers that are kept outside.

My personal preference is to plant them in containers in the kitchen because of the healing value that they present for burns, and I'm always getting burned when cooking.

The plant is also used in many alternative medicine treatments as an herbal medicine for treating digestive problems, and research has indicated that the plant might be useful in the treatment of elevated blood lipids and diabetes.

It is a favorite among cosmetics and it often found as an ingredient in shampoos, lotions and moisturizers. I couldn't live without my aloe-containing cooling spray for sunburns.

The plant can be planted just like other plants for container gardening ...

  • Make sure that the container has drain holes and a platter to catch the water that drains out.
  • Place a few pebbles in the bottom of the container to ensure good drainage.
  • Fill about two-thirds of the container with potting soil.
  • Place the plant in the middle of the container and cover the roots up to the crown well with soil.

How to Use the Plant

Honestly, aloes are not just beautiful and they wouldn't be my number one choice as a houseplant, but it can be attractive in a cactus container garden. I grow them in order to use them.

Cutting off leaves can make the plant look unattractive; however, if you cut the outer leaves at the base, instead of breaking off pieces of it, it doesn't damage its appearance.

The leaves can be cut open to reveal the healing gel that makes them cactus container garden.
