Beautiful Yellow Roses

by Sarik
(Columbia, Tennessee, United States of America)

When I was a young child, I received a small rose bush one birthday. At the time, I loved growing plants, any and every kind. I was quite a green thumb, as well, one year managing to grow a tangle of gourd vines that completely encompassed the large deck in our backyard.

Well, I planted the rose bush and began to nurture it. In my young age, I paid quite a lot of attention to it like I did all plants, and by the next year I had a thriving bush that managed to produce several beautiful yellow blooms, and every year after that, it managed to only grow larger. It was a shame when we moved, as I was forced to not only leave behind my thriving yellow rose, but also many other beautiful flowering bush plants that I had raised over the years.

However, when I moved, I realized the next spring that the thorn bush growing by the back fence was not actually a thorn bush, but indeed an overgrown, un-pruned rose bush. I knew this when it blossomed a few dark pink blossoms, but far too few for the monstrous size of the thing. It must have been left to grow wild for years.

So, I began to prune at it, making sure that only the oldest limbs remained. Well, finally, after a couple years of work, I finally managed to get a full bloom from my bush. This past spring, when the bush bloomed for the first time, I was rewarded with dozens of healthy, deep-pink blossoms. Until the day the blossoms began to wilt, I found myself staring at those roses for a few minutes every single day, bringing back reminders of my childhood. I look forward to seeing them bloom again this spring, for they will be truly beautiful.
