Cherry blossom is like light pink snow falling.

by t-ihira
(tokyo, japan)

Cherry flowers bloom all at once and for a very short period - about 2 weeks. All the flowers then fall, coming down in a storm of light pink.
There are no leaves before flowers bloom. When they bloom, they come on fast.

First you notice little buds, some of them already starting to show pink petals. Without you seeing, they come into bloom. Next time you see, there are rows after rows of fluffy pink balls with tree trunks.

Tree trunk is the only part without soft pink color. Traditionally cherry trees are planted in rows on boulevards. You can take a long walk surrounded by pink flowers. It is stunning.

With a little breeze, all those tree branches will swing, making a wave of tsunami towering over you. You are about to be swallowed in the pink tide.

When flowers are done blooming, they start to fall, one by one. Then they start to fall in deluge like a snow. They will take you into a warm spring cocoon of pink petals. Being cold is not a requirement here.

Cherry flowers bloom only when it becomes warm enough in a spring time. Falling pink petals, they are all around, everywhere you look. Even on the ground. Like a virgin snow you can walk on them when they just have fallen to the ground so no one has walked on them yet. You are the first one to put steps on.
