Butterfly and Bird Friendly Designs for Garden Flower Beds

It is accomplishable to create designs for garden flower beds that are a wildlife haven.

If you enjoy watching birds or admire the fluttering of butterflies, it makes sense to create a flower bed that they will love and will return to.

If you are planting a garden with the intention of attracting wildlife, you need to be dead-set on avoiding the use of pesticides.

Organic gardening techniques will ensure that the garden is safe for the wildlife. The mission is to create a nature-friendly garden that will make these creatures feel right at home.

Making a Nature-Friendly Setting

In creating your flower garden design you need to select flowers that birds and butterflies love and plants that are able to support cocoons and perhaps rocks that give them easy access to a resting place.

For birds, you might want to supplement their natural feeding by providing bird seed through a bird feeder.

You can provide the birds with a bird bath to drink from. Butterflies won’t drink from an open source. They prefer sipping dew, so it is your best bet to provide a dish filled with sand that collects dew when you water the garden.

If you intend to attract a specific type of bird or butterfly, research the creature itself to find out what type of flowers they prefer and find out which host plants attract the butterflies and support the caterpillars.

Flowers and Plants to Attract Birds

Birds love flowers, plants and trees that provide edible berries, fruit or seeds. In addition to trees or bushes for shelter, most birds are attracted to these flowers and plants.
