The Benefits of a Flower Encyclopedia

An encyclopedia is handy to have to around. It is an awesome resource for identifying flowers, learning about individual flowers and selecting flowers for a flower garden design.

It can also be useful if you are using a prepared flower garden plan and you have trouble getting a particular flower. By using the facts from the encyclopedia, it is easy to substitute appropriate flowers that will fit into the plan nicely.

Most encyclopedias contain tips for planting individual flowers as well as taking care of them, along with tons of flower photos.

Recommended Encyclopedias

I haven’t found anything that is more informative than the A to Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants by American Horticultural Society. It not only contains the details of many flowers, it also includes grasses and bamboos, trees and shrubs, cacti and aquatic plants. It also provides cultivation techniques from planting to pruning. It is a very educational book.

If you prefer having the information sorted by colors, you will love Mary Moody’s book, The Encyclopedia of Flowers. It is not nearly as educational as the previously mentioned encyclopedia, but it is a valid resource and enjoyable to read for most flower garden hobbyists.

Using the internet is a great way to investigate particular flowers and plants, but it is difficult to use if you don’t what exactly you are looking for. An encyclopedia of flowers and plants will definitely fill in the gap.
