I will give you an example of sharing thoughts and ideas...

About when I was planting grass in my backyard, my husband bought me some coleus plants for Mother’s Day. I didn’t have a lot of time, because I was in the process of turning my rock pile into a yard – hauling dirt, picking out rocks, raking and preparing for planting. I didn’t do my research!

I read that that the plants were good for borders and in areas with mild winters they are perennial plants , while in rough winters they are used as annuals . So, since I live in New Mexico (the desert!) I planted them along the edge of the “going to be” yard.

I didn’t read that they grow best in the shade. Where I planted them they were in full sunlight. Over exposure to the sun caused them to wilt and some of them died before I had the chance to replant them in a container kept in the shade. Here is a before and after photo...

The learning experience is, do your research before you plant, no matter what else is going on! Never plant coleus plants in full sunlight. They will wilt and they will die.
