Using Garden Seed in Your Vegetable Garden

If you plan to plant garden vegetables, you can use garden seed or you can purchase pre-started plants.

Personally, I prefer planting plants because of my impatience about getting veggies on the table; however, sometimes it is hard to find healthy plants and it is better to start from garden vegetable seeds .

You can start seeds indoors, or you can plant most of them right in the garden. If you obtain the seeds from a worthy vegetable seed catalog they will come with planting instructions. Pay attention to the sowing time for your zone, the depth that the seeds need to planted, as well as the spacing.

The Secret to
Growing Veggies from Seed

Honestly, if the garden seed is planted in properly prepared soil, they are destined to grow.

The soil needs to be well-draining, composted with organic matter in order to be fertile, and retentive of moisture. It also needs to be well tilled with most of the clods and rocks removed. Covering seeds with clods or stones will keep them from developing.

Some garden plants require crop rotation, so if you have had a garden in your chosen space, you do need to be aware of the requirements for specific vegetables. For instance, members of the cabbage family (like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower) should not be planted year after year in the same place.

Failure to rotate the crops will lead to disease of the plants. Therefore, it is recommended that you study each plant before planting your seeds the second year of your garden.

Whether you choose to plant pre-started plants to grow your veggies from seed, vegetable planting is a lot of fun and a rewarding experience.
