Geraniums- easy to grow and beautiful

My favorite annual flower is the geranium. Geraniums are extremely easy to grow and readily available at any garden center or other store that carries annual flowers. Geraniums are heat and drought tolerant, which is important in the hot, often dry summers of the southeastern United States.
There are virtually no insect pests or diseases that attack geraniums, so there is no need to spray with harsh chemicals. Geraniums grow best in full sun but will tolerate some shade. Geraniums can be grown in hanging baskets, large containers for the front porch, window boxes, small pots for tabletop display, or planted directly into the ground, making them a very versatile annual to grow.
They can be grown outdoors or indoors, provided there is enough light indoors for them to bloom. Geraniums are available in many colors. My personal favorite is red, because the color is so bright and vibrant, but many other colors are available, including light pink, dark pink or fuchsia, salmon or peach, white, and even bicolors such as a white flower with a pink center.
The leaves of geraniums can also vary, with some being solid green and some variegated green and white or green and yellow. Geranium leaves can also be nearly circular, or display a deeper cut leaf or lacy foliage. Those geraniums with lacy foliage are often scented geraniums, in which the leaves give off a nice fragrance, which can vary from citrus scents, peppermint, pineapple, and rose.
Geraniums overall are a very versatile, attractive, and easy to grow, which makes them my favorite choice for an annual flower to grow.
