I Love My Wildflowers!

by Rose Marie
(Texas, US)

About two years ago I decided to try my hand at growing a wildflower garden. I had seen packages of seeds for a wild flower garden at my local store, so I just bought those. I thought it seemed easy enough, and the picture on the packages were absolutely beautiful. So, I bought the seeds, went home and prepared my garden area.

After the soil was ready for the seeds, I did as the package said and planted them. I waited for a while, and nothing grew. Nothing even started to grow. I was beginning to give up on my garden. I began looking around online at reviews of seed packets like the kind that I had bought, and after reading several reviews I had found my problem. Pre-packaged seeds that claim that you will grow a big, beautiful garden are rip-offs. Big time. I waited until the next year, and decided to try again.

This time I wasn't going to go anywhere near a package of seeds. Instead, I went to a nursery and I bought some blanketflower seeds. I had researched them online, and the pictures that I saw of the flowers in bloom were breathtaking. I loved them. I also bought some wild columbine, which I thought was a very interesting looking flower. The last flower that I bought was the purple coneflower. I wanted to start simple, and see how everything went with the easier flowers before shelling out more money for more flowers.

I'm very proud to say that after planting all of my wildflowers, and with some love and patience, I have a wonderful wildflower garden, complete with blanketflower, wild columbine, and purple coneflower. Everyone that visits my house loves my garden, and I do, too. It was definitely worth the previous failure and all the waiting. To anyone that is thinking of starting their own wildflower garden, I would warn against packaged seeds that claim to grow you a fruitful garden overnight.
