A Learning Experience...One of most memorable moments with my kids was when we researched herbs as a home school lesson. I remember planting a lilac bush with my Dad that I could see out of my bedroom window. My fond memories also include one time when my Mother was out of town and Dad and I picked green tomatoes, squash and eggplants that he fried up for breakfast. At that time, I didn’t like garden vegetables, but I tried them and I have been a veggie lover ever since. Gardening experiences can be wonderful and memorable to both the children and the parents. It doesn’t need to appear as “work” or “chores”, but more of a concept of sowing and reaping. It will teach the children responsibility and maybe even cure the anti-vegetable syndrome that many children seem to have.
