Magnolia Trees

Melva Pratts of Largo, FL

My favorite flowering tree is the magnolia tree. I love its beautiful fragrance which is emitted constantly from the flowers. Being a Louisiana native, we have many of these exotic smelling trees in our neighborhoods.

I love their beauty, shiny leaves, beautiful petals which start out small and tightly closed buds, then when in full bloom, are layers upon layers of petals. These trees are easy to grow and once it is in the right climate they will thrive and flourish making you a proud owner of them.

When planting these trees, you have to remember they will be small for only a short time. Once their grow, they will need plenty room to spread because they do get big. I did notice that towards the end of spring the sun did burn the leaves, so consideration while planting them is very necessary. The cuttings are quite fragrant I use to take mine to work and the office smells like magnolia for at least 2-3 days and their beauty last for time as well.

I am no longer in Louisiana, and the nearest I am to the Magnolia is through a store brand shower gel and hand soap which has the exact smell of magnolia. I did see some cuttings at the plant store, and once I move out of my apartment and into a house, I will plant another Magnolia. The smell makes me feel at home and brings back childhood memories which brings me peace of mind.
