My Bulb Garden

by Faye
(Raleigh NC)

I have a yard full of lovely flowers, many which I plant as bulbs. Planting bulbs enables you to have fresh flowers throughout the growing season. I adore the Calla Crystal Blush. They are a lovely white flower that develops a beautiful blush color as the flower matures. These flowers have a long vase life. I plant lots of these so I can always have a beautiful vase in my home filled with these gorgeous flowers. I enjoy bringing the beauty of nature indoors. I also have lots of Amaryllis plants and enjoy giving them as gifts.

I also plant lots of Lavender, Lily of the Valley, Freesia (in all of the available colors), tulips, and many more. Freesia and Lily of the Valley are very fragrant. They add a wonderful aroma to your yard on beautiful summer days. I love the scent of fresh flowers while I’m sitting in my yard on a hot summer day enjoying a glass of sweet tea- there’s nothing like it in the world.

The one thing that I try to keep in mind when planting bulbs is the height of each individual plant. You want to be able to enjoy the beauty of your flowers when they bloom, so I’m always sure to plant the taller flowers in the back and the shorter flowers towards the front of my garden. This way I can see the beauty of every flower as they bloom. I also try to plant the bulbs so that I always have a full flower garden by planting lots of bulbs that bloom at the same time, so I don’t have bare spots in my garden.
