My Relaxing Shade Garden

by Ameila
(Atlanta, USA)

When people ask me what I do to relax, I always have the same answer. I go to my shade garden to let the day melt away. I began my shade garden because I love being outdoors, and I love flowers.

I planted my garden in the shade of some huge trees in my backyard. When I first moved into my house, one of the major selling points for me, were the gorgeous shade trees in the backyard.

I like to plant annuals in my shade garden. The reason I prefer this is because annual flowers provide more color longer. I also like to plant a wide variety of flowers and different foliage. In my garden, I used impatiens, which are good for shade gardens because they are a very sturdy plant. I also planted lots of hosta, even though it's a perennial. hosta provides a great contrast to the bright color of the flowers. Another flower that I love for my garden is the begonia. They bloom beautiful, and almost year-round.

During the spring and summer, when it's warm enough, I love to grab a glass of sweet iced tea and go sit out in my shade garden. Sometimes I take pictures of the flowers and trees, sometimes I read a book, or sometimes I just sit and relax. I have friends that offer to "rent my garden" so that they can have some time to themselves to relax. I invite them over, and they are taken away by the scents and sights of my flower garden. It's a wonderful place to get away from it all and view natural beauty.
