Ornamental Grass Goes Great in a Water Garden

Once my husband and I discovered ornamental grasses, our water garden in our back yard came alive. It began with our simple water garden that we built ourselves one summer. It consisted of two small ponds with a waterfall connecting them.
We added some stepping stones, bird baths, and a bench for sitting. However, when we would sit and look at it, it seemed to be missing something. We left it as it was for the rest of the year, but the next season, after looking at water gardens online, we discovered ornamental grass.
We went to our local nursery and I immediately fell in love with the Purple Fountain Grass. It has such a rich purple color, and with purple actually being my favorite color, I knew we just had to have it. We looked over more of the ornamental grasses, and I also liked the Mexican Feather Grass and the Pampas Grass.
We used the Purple Fountain Grass between the two ponds. The Mexican Feather Grass was perfect for being used on either side of our stepping stones. It's a nice grass that has a lot of movement when the breeze comes. It's a really summery grass that I just love. It also gives a nice contrast to the water, and the purple on the Purple Fountain Grass. We used the Pampas Grass as a background grass. We put it behind the ponds for a nice backdrop. It really helps to pull the space together.
Now when we go out and sit to look at our ponds, and the goldfish that we recently put in, we are thrilled with our outcome. Now that we have the ornamental grass, the garden no longer feels like there is something missing. It finally feels complete and relaxing.
