Our Lovely Shade Garden

by Cee Cee
(Durham, NC)

When my husband and I moved into our new home, our backyard needed some major landscaping. A large part of our yard is shaded and I wanted to plant as many flowers as possible. So I started to do some research on which flowers would thrive in shaded areas. I was surprised that there were so many to choose from. I was under the impression that there weren’t many flowers to choose from if you needed flowers that would flourish in the shade.

I chose a large mix of flowers because I like as much variety and color in my flower garden as possible. A few flowers that I’ve found have done very well in my shade garden are Impatiens, Begonias, Nicotianas, Torenias, and Violas. I also have many other flowers in my garden. These are just a few that have done exceptionally well.

We also found a nice variety of plants that thrive in the shade. We duplicated our shade garden on the opposite side of our yard as well. It looks lovely.

After we planted our shade garden we had a garden party and all of our friends and family were impressed with the selection of flowers that we’d found to plant. Our yard is now everyone’s favorite gathering place during the summer months. Our shade garden is where my husband and I go to relax after a long day at work. We try to find time to enjoy the beauty of our shade garden daily.
