Year-Round Color Perennial Gardening Tips
Perennial gardening is a favorite of many flower lovers because the plants reappear year after year and they require less maintenance than other flowers.
The garden can be color-enhanced by adding
annual flowers
to it.
Everyone likes year-round color in their gardens.
In the wintertime, it is understandable for
backyard landscaping
to fade out; however, by using the following
perennial plants
, annuals and
evergreen trees
and bushes, you can assure that your yard will have color in all four seasons.
For spring color…
Plant early spring bloomers mixed with mid and late spring bloomers.
- Early spring bloomers include hyacinths, daffodils and tulips. Remember, if planting these from
flower bulbs
they need to actually be planted in the fall. Bloodroot and Lenten roses are also early spring bloomers.
- Mid-spring favorites include the white wakerobin, cowslips and Bethlehem sage.
- Snowdrops, bluebells and
bleeding hearts
are late spring bloomers.
For summer color…
Plant heat tolerant flowers such as coneflowers, black-eyed Susan,
Dahlias
, Shasta daisies, and snowbank boltonias.
For color in the fall…
Try planting
peonies
, flowering kale,
iris flowers
, asters, helenium, and hydrangeas.
For color in the winter…
Planting evergreens is an alterative to having a dead-looking yard. Some ornamental grasses also flourish in the winter. If you have some knowledge about the seasonal blooming of flowers,
