Purple Balloon Flowers

by Bertha
(USA)

Oh how I love the color purple! The Purple Balloon Flower is one of my favorite perennial flowers. Due to such a pretty color of purple, it has captivated my heart. This flower is very versatile when it comes to the type of climate that it can be grown in. They thrive best in moist soil along with average exposure to the sun. They will grow in just about any type of soil but they do prefer the areas where the summers are considered cool.

When you look at the balloon flower, it will remind you of a purple pinwheel. They grow to be at least one to three feet tall. They add a lot of color to any landscape. It is best to plant them in the springtime so that they will bloom in the summer. Because this is the type of plant that does not need a lot of sunlight all the time, it is a good choice for those that want to plant them in a shaded area. They do need sunlight but it does not have to direct sunlight.

If you happen to live in an area that receives a lot of rain throughout the spring and summer months, this will not hurt the balloon flowers. They are able to handle heavy amounts of rain and still bloom. This is a tough flower that has the ability to adapt to its environment with limited side effects. If you live in a dry area, this plant will also do well, but watering them will help them to maintain their beauty.
