Roses Aren't Always Red.

by Lucille
(Omaha, Nebraska, USA)

My favorite Perennial Flower is the Rose. They come in so many different varieties, colors and sizes. You never get bored with them and they are so easy to grow. I am not the world’s best gardener, but I don’t kill things really easy either.

I don’t know all of the top-secret tricks to making things live for ages, but for some reason my rose bushes never seem to die or get sick on me.

Every year they grow back exactly where I left them, and they get larger and larger as the years go on. I really enjoy shopping from seed catalogs where there are tons of varieties of Roses. This year I am ordering a blue-tinted variety and a red variety that looks black at a certain angle.

The best thing about having a Rose Garden is that you can cut some stems off, arrange them in a vase, and give them as a gift to your friends and family. Everyone always raves about how beautiful my Rose Garden is. It’s something that I am always quite proud of.

I am not sure how I get them to grow so well. All I do is dig a hole and line it with potting soil, take the bush out of the pot, break up the roots and then put the plant in the hole that I dug. I don’t use fertilizer. I don’t believe in using commercial pesticides and plant growers to grow my flowers. They hurt our soil and all of the animals and insects in our ecosystem.
