Trumpet Flowers

by Angela
(Leesburg, VA)

I think there is something truly special about annual flowers. Taking the time to plant and grow them when you know they won't be along all that long just makes you appreciate the beauty of the flower all the more. There are many annuals I love- daisies, marigolds, and forget-me-not, just to name a few- but the one that has always really impressed me is trumpet flowers.

When taken care of, a trumpet flower can grow to be so huge, and I think that that is just awe inspiring to look at. It's an incredible feeling to nourish a plant to be so big in such a short amount of time. When people come into my garden, my trumpet flower plants are almost always the first thing that they comment on.

I can't think of a flower that smells as lovely as trumpet flower does. I've heard people refer to it as Angel's trumpet, and that name seems very fitting in light of its heavenly scent. That is another of the many reasons that I love trumpet flowers so much.

The thing that I love the most about trumpet flower, is of course, the flowers themselves. I love the shape that the flowers grow in. My favorite color to grow trumpet flower in is the standard white, because I think it fits its delicate shape perfectly.

Trumpet flowers will always be my favorite annual flower. Sometimes I wish that it was a perennial, but I don't really mind planting it again every year. Trumpet flowers are definitely worth all of the work!
